Athens is the perfect starting point for cruising to the Saronic Islands, however the same does not hold true for Alimos Marina. Owned by the government, the marina suffers from neglect and lack of investment, and the quality of the facilities and the number of berths available leave something to be desired. As such we recommend weighing anchor as soon as possible.
In ancient times, the fame of the Peloponnesian town ofEpidavros was spread as far as Rome as a place for healing . Known as the home of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine, Epidavros attracted visitors from far away who sought a cure for their ailments. Today, as well as being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the incredibly well preserved theatre is the main attraction of Epidavros which is also a venue for the Hellenic Festival of Classical Greek Theatre.
A narrow sea channel separates Poros and the mountainous Peloponnesianpeninsula. The sheltered port of the island makes the encircling Poros Town seem like a quiet lakeside resort. The small coastal town of Ermioni lies on the eastern shores of the Peloponnese, in the area of Argolis. The recent decades has seen the revival of this beautiful port town built on the hills encircling the harbor, and a large number of Athenians have summer homes here. Both the Northern and the Southern sides of the headland are suitable for anchorage, depending on wind direction.
Hydra is definitely the jewel of the Saronic Gulf and it is the only Greek island without vehicles with wheels. No autos. No motorcycles. Simply narrow cobblestone streets,donkeys, rocky cliffs and the sea. In addition to sailors, throughout the years the island has attracted artists, actors, performers and celebrities such as Nikos Chatzikyriakos-Ghikas, Brice Marden, Melina Mercouri, Sophia Loren, Panayiotis Tetsis, and Leonard Cohen.
The name "Angistiri" means "fishing hook" in English, which gives some idea of the significance of the island and its main port that lies on the northern coast. Angistiri is a great starting or ending point for a yacht charter in the Saronic islands. It is a small, quiet and pictoresque island that is very close to Athens.
The old city of Athens is home to some of the most famous ancient sites in the world such as the Acropolis and the Parthenon, which sould not be missed by any visitor. We suggest that you take the cable-car which runs right by the marina entrance.
